365 Daily Design Challenge #4

#4

Wow, this design challenge is more difficult than I thougt it would be!  I am getting some prototypes knocked out, which is good. Today’s image is tied to a “Diary of a budding web developer” journal entry.

“Sometimes the best lessons are learned from the school of hard knocks”.

I recently decided to consolidate two hosting accounts.  During the process of moving everything, I noticed that one of the domains were purchased when the hosting account was purchased. I personally would advise to keep the top level domain as one for testing purposes.  The reason I mention this:  Who is your registrar?

I used to have really bad issues with godaddy.  I really dislike them for a number of reasons, however I found one very good use for them – as a registrar.  Every time I have ever had to point DNS from one server to another it has been almost instantaneous.  Other domains not registered with godaddy took from 12-24 hours to update DNS.

The top level domain that came with my account is “floating”.  It’s going to take up to 5 days for the registrar to sign off on it.  The host says that it is out of their hands and that they’ve done everything they can.  Wow.  Good thing it wasn’t a client’s website!

My hard knock lesson of the week would be to never purchase your domain through a web host unless you plan on keeping the hosting account for the lifetime of the domain.

Your icons are gorgeous. Very pro design with the Adobe set! I like the hand drawn raw set as well.

I look forward to watching your designs as the year progresses.
